About the Artist

Sarah Mitchell - in her own words

Although I come from an artistic family, and I have been drawing and painting as a hobby since early childhood, I never really took seriously any ambition to be an artist. In all honesty I never believed I was good enough. I studied the sciences at college but it did me no good; I spent several years shuffling from one dull office-job to another, never really enjoying the work. During a spell of unemployment in late 1999 at the age of 32 I started to take my art more seriously. I was in no rush to look for another job in another accounts office and after 6 months of working from home I found by chance an opportunity to take on a studio near my home. And so the Wolfglade Studio was born.

About My Art

My main areas of specialty are Celtic art, Animals and Fantasy art. The Celtic art appeals to the mathematician in me, and it lends itself well to rendering in CGI. I paint animals mainly because I can't draw people so well. I particularly like doing horses, dogs and birds, and I am starting to branch out into pet portraits which are proving popular. The fantasy art started as a spin-off from the horses. It took little effort to put a horn on a horse and turn it into a unicorn, or a pair of wings for a pegasus. I like the fantasy genre because it allows me more freedom as an artist. I am inspired a great deal by mythology and fantasy fiction but much of what I do is purely imaginitive, inspired only by my dreams.
